A proxy server at, also known as a proxy is a computer that acts as a gateway between a local network and a larger-scale network such as the Internet. Some applications which attempt to block offensive Web content - are implemented as Web proxy. Proxy servers provide increased performance and security. In some cases, they monitor employees use of outside resources. For instance, proxies are often used by people to access sites which have been censored by their companies, organizations or governments. A proxy script is hosted on a website which provides a proxy to users via a web browser, downloads requested web pages, modifies them for compatibility with the server and forwards them on to the user.
